Joe Coco moved to Montana in 1993. A former Marine officer, Joe served in the active duty Marine Corps from 1985 to 1993 in a variety of infantry and reconnaissance billets where he was deployed to such locations as Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Joe is a military parachutist and combat diver, and is a veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Joe left active military service in 1993, eventually earning the rank of Major in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Upon leaving the military, Joe turned his investment hobby into a career. In 1993 he took over the Whitefish branch of Edward Jones, a large national investment firm, and in 2009, he started his own successful investment advisory firm, which he sold to his associates in 2024.
As an investment advisor, Joe was often called upon by clients and friends to provide advice on a variety of personal issues related to decision-making. An avid reader of ancient philosophy, and calling on his experience leading Marines, Joe’s advice has proven helpful to people standing at the crossroads of a decision. Too young to completely retire, Joe launched Coco Consulting to assist clients in making good decisions for the purpose of living optimally.
Since moving to Whitefish, Joe has served on a variety of civic and non-profit boards. Joe is a member of Easthaven Baptist Church. An Eagle Scout himself, Joe served as Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 17 from 2001-2006. Currently, Joe is the Troopmaster of Trail Life USA Troop MT-3368, where he camps every month in Montana’s outdoors. Joe is also chairman of the board for the Frontier Institute, a Montana public policy think tank. In his free time, Joe enjoys homesteading, studying and debating philosophy, summer and winter backpacking, and playing guitar.
Joe and Linda have been married since 1985 and have two adult children and three grandchildren.
Joe offers mentoring and advice in private appointments or group settings on a variety of personal and professional topics. Calling on his decades of leadership experience and his study of the wisdom traditions of western and non-western civilizations, Joe offers advice on mastering the art of living well. Joe is particularly interested in assisting clients in reaching what the ancient Greeks called: "eudaimonia,” the Aristotelian goal of achieving the highest human good.
